Read in October, 2008

I read this as an audiobook, right after The Abstinence Teacher and Special Topics in Calamity Physics, both of which were so poorly written I couldn't finish them. Coming into Somerset Maughm's lucid prose was like being let out of a cage.

Dottie Isn't Maugham's utilization of language just simply wonderful?

Ruth It's been a long time since I read any Somerset Maughm. It was a pleasant surprise to find he was as good as I remembered.

Dottie Ruth, I had that same experience of realizing anew how wonderful his work is when I began re-reading several of them and exploring those I had not yet read. He does not disappoint in my opinion.

Rannie I love your phrasing "Coming into Somerset Maughm's lucid prose was like being let out of a cage. " I'll have to give Maugham a try on your rec.
