Halfway to something interesting. It was self-absorbed and still developing, characters obsessed with over-analyzing themselves and their art. It was mired in upper middle class privilege and the idea of being a genius. That, perhaps, is where it lost me -- how conscious the book and the characters were of what they were trying to do. That, and the way the characters were more concerned with how others perceived them than with how they actually were or what they did.

Added the third star because the book had moments of clarity -- but they were quickly masked again by the fog of its own self-importance. Maybe self-importance isn't the right term.

This book and I had a clash of personalities, but not in an interesting way.
