Read in January, 2008
i've read the Walter Morison translation (1955 edition) with the introduction by Lionel Trilling. i was presented two versions of the translation (one by Morison and one by Peter Constantine) in a class and thought the Morison version was more interesting. Too bad it is out of print and difficult to come by. Lucky, though, that my local public library had a copy. If the subject matter weren't so dire, I'd say it was a joy to read. It isn't, but you keep on reading, anyway. That's the power Babel exerts over you. Despite the hideous circumstances, he compels you to read.
