i did not really care for any of the characters in this novel, but that did not take away from the fact that i could NOT STOP reading it. i almost got a bit tired of the unending plot twists (...and now we find out that ***, but now we find out that *****, and oh my gosh, i can't believe it, she's actually ***!!!). but like i said, almost. this author keeps me on my toes. i read tipping the velvet quite some time ago, actually after seeing the bbc version, and i really enjoyed it, but never pursued anything further. then while in a "womyn" store in provincetown, MA, i stumbled across a copy of fingersmith and decided to take it out of the library when i got home... and i read that and affinity and night watch all within a couple of weeks. i suppose i should have paced myself, since now i'm out of sarah waters books to read.
