There were many things I enjoyed about this book, but ultimately I thought it didn't work as a stand-alone novel. The plot arc wasn't fully realized and seemed more like a set-up for a mini-series than an actual novel. There are glimmers of Card's brilliance in this, but this book was done with a screenwriter and often read to me more as a screenplay treatment than a novel. Alas.
