I like the idea behind this book about a female farmer, but while as she chooses words with a sounds, then e, i, o, u, and y, and performs tasks using machinery based on the sounds, things get rather complicated and don't make a lot of sense--at least to me. Here's what I mean: She planned to "Saw barn planks, stack sacks./ Sacks fall, stand back/ crank cranks, slap backs" (unpaged). If I'm more than a little confused, how lost might young readers be? The illustrations are very bright, as well, too bright for me. Maybe young readers wouldn't care and would find the colors and text appealing.
