This collection of novellas were chosen by the SF Writers of America, with the book was published in 1973; so as you can guess, some of the selections seem dated, with all but one of the novellas published originally between 1947-1961.

Some of the stories hold up, like "The Martian Way," by Asimov, or "The Machine Stops," by Forster; others seems more like fantastical constructs, like "The Witches of Karres," by Schmitz, or "The Moon Moth," by Vance. I've never claimed to like ALL science fiction, and there are always hits and misses in a collection of stories - each reader finding their pleasure in at least a couple of the offerings. But looking back on this collection from forty years on, it's a mixed bag.
