i would like to say "a heartbreaking work of staggering genius," but i'll refrain. ;) this book was, unsurprisingly, AMAZING. i'm in awe of dave eggers' ability to make a novel out of this "autobiography," and make it somehow seem more true than reality (how do i know this? i don't. ignore me). but such is the power of the novel, no? to make something greater than the sum of its parts? almost-numbing in its stories (over and over) of tragedy and pain, yet inspiring ultimately. and what really "worked" for me, was the frame of Deng in ATL, and the inclusion of his experiences as an immigrant.

don't skip this book. you won't be sorry you read it, only touched in more ways than you can articulate.
