This is a young adult book and probably should not be reviewed by a reader who does not appreciate young adult reads. It is likely that I would have enjoyed this at the age of 12 or 13, but not today. This is a coming of age story that recycles much exploited elements: orphans, boarding school with largely absent adults, strong, exclusive peer bonding in an insulated group, first love and the discovery of the truth of one’s past. I found the writing mediocre, the characters unrealistic, the plot predictable.
