The author did a great job of describing how major events -- in this book WWII -- can change the lives of people forever. It is about 3 women who have been friends since childhood. They each have husbands that enlist to fight in WWII. The book looks at how each woman handles the challenge depending on her personality and how it is sometimes difficult for her friends to understand why she responds the way she does. It also describes how the men fighting in the war have different reactions when the war is over, quite often depending on what role they played in the actual fighting. The book not only describes the impact of war on individuals, couples, families, and friendships, but it also describes how the culture during the 40's, 50's, and 60's combined with the war to create both challenges and benefits. A very interesting book!
