I was unaware that when I watched the movie 'The Vampires Assistant,' that there was a sleuth of books that chronicled young Darren Shan's transformation in to a vampire. I just so happened to run across the first book while browsing my favorite local used book store the other day (HQ books, Medford Or. for those who care) and I couldn't wait to get home and tear into the pages. This book dives further into the story of Darren Shan, and how he became what he is. While the book is an extremely easy read, (I was able to finish it with in a day) and is obviously written for teens to young adults, I found it not only very entertaining, but it was a new fresh look on the ever changing Vampire folk lore. A living Nightmare has its heavier moments where emotions run high with the main characters, however for the most part it is a very light heart-ed read and I would recommend it young teens and adults alike.
