Very interesting historical fiction. Set in 1663 New Amsterdam, before it becomes Manhatten. There are Dutch characters wit difficult names, English, and various tribes of Native Americans. landine is a female trader who is trying to solve the mystery of who is killing orphan children. She is helped by Edward who is in the New World to find the traitors who signed the death warrent of England's Charles I. witchcraft, treason, and Indian evil spirits and much more play out. At 418 pages there were several sections that could have been removed to tighten up the narrative. But it was interesting to read a novel that is set in an obscure time period of history.
