I loved this book because it proved to me that Dalrymple could write both non-fiction and historical non-fiction with an amazing amount of flair and with a knack for delving to the roots of any historical event- what started it, what came of it, the modern repercussions.

The book is also very well written as evidenced by the incredible descriptions provided- the beauties of Mughal delhi, the barbarity of soldiers during the uprising, etc all are explained vividly.

The only problem that I had with the book was that it did not properly explain the geography of Delhi and the surrounding areas such as Meerut and Karnal so that, prior to researching myself, i found it quite hard to follow the geographic details of the novel.
