Review

In Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning three siblings named Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire lose their parents in a horrendous fire that destroys their entire mansion. After this incident the three siblings were now known as the Baudelaire orphans. The Baudelaire orphans, however, had much more bad news coming towards them. They now had to face going to live with, who they knew as a stranger, their new guardian by the name of Count Olaf. Count Olaf, although seemed stern and strict, seemed like a guardian none the less. That is until the orphans discovered his true intentions which were to steal the Baudelaire fortune, an enormous amount of money the orphan’s parents had left behind. Count Olaf schemes his way towards the fortune masterfully, but will he end up succeeding and taking the fortune? Or will the Baudelaire orphans succeed in foiling his plans? Will anyone get hurt in the process?

Personal Response

I liked this fiction book a lot more than I thought I would. It is an addicting storyline with many thrills and chills along the way. It was beautifully written and very genius if I do say so myself. Lemony Snicket outrageously exceeded my expectations and allowed me to enjoy the reading of this book. All the crazy events, along with the twists and turns, made this book one of my favorites for years to come. I give this book four out of five stars simply because it was a delight of a book that I just so happened to find.

Information

The Bad Beginning is one hundred and sixty two pages of thrills, I definitely recommend this book to any student of any age. In fact, the way Lemony Snicket writes is so nice. Like this quote: “They didn’t understand it, but like so many unfortunate events in life, just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean it isn’t so.” This quote is so true and really opened my eyes to see how closed minded some people actually are.
Charlotte Vale-Allen says, “They are purportedly children's books but the author has a wicked sense of humor…” Lemony Snicket has other works including: The Baby in the Manger, The Lump of Coal, and The Composer is Dead. This book also earned many awards such as follows: The Colorado Children’s Book Award, The Nevada Young Readers Award, and The Nene Award.
