The writing style of this book was a little awkward, maybe because I'm not really used to reading non-fiction stories. However, the content of this story was completely heart-wrenching. The war stories in the book were under no circumstances romanticized to any extent. In modern countries it is easy to see how we romanticize war, but Beah tells it how it is.

The only complaint: Towards the end of the book Beah starts to jump backward and forward in time. Other than that this book was perfect. Brutal and honest and through the eyes of a child. Would definitely recommend this book!
