Gigi has had her ups and downs with men. But the one thing she’s learned is that style will get her through it and, once the men have gone, she’s got her lovely, lovely clothes and accessories as consolation prizes. The memoir has an insouciant tone, filled with witty banter that never allows the reader to descend too far into maudlin territory (okay, so she binges out on ice cream when she’s blue—who doesn’t?!). Peppering her memoir with show tune lyrics, Shakespearean quotes and French phrases, Gigi is a combination of Carrie Bradshaw, Sally Bowles and Ethel Merman. Erudite, brassy, down at heel and charmingly whorish, she is a girl capable of enjoying both greasy chili fries and coq au vin. She sails through life knowing that all a gal really needs is that perfect raincoat and tons of fabulous makeup products. (A good man couldn’t hurt but until then she’s gonna have fun with the bad ones. Woohoo!)
