I was very excited about this book set in Paris by a South African writer. It reminded me of one of those very talky French films made in the 1980's, beautiful, complicated, but in the end, rather depressing. Heyns did make me believe this was a story that he actually lived, and as I had hoped, Paris is a main character. However, she was more of a villainess than I expected.
