3.5 Stars.

The first half of the book had me struggling. It took over one hundred pages for Jordan to place the female protagonists from Ebou Dar to a farm, and that includes a jump through a gateway! On the positive side, Rand is evermore developing into a dark complex character; definitively not the same boy that left Edmond's Field. There's some more fancy battles with plenty of saidin fireworks and the return of an old character.

Being the eighth book, there were times I had great difficulty remembering some characters. Some of the names are similar to others and it's starting to become too much of a blur in my mind. Jordan has expanded the POV characters to such a degree that I find it takes away more from the story than it does to add to it.

So near yet so far away it seems at this point that the last couple of books are going to be non stop action to wrap up this epic undertaking.
