** spoiler alert ** While I enjoyed the setup of the story in the opening of this book, I really feel it did not in the end live up to the legacy of the first book.

I know this is a book for younger readers and I don't qualify any more, but I felt the characters in the first book were plausible, while I simply could not buy into the people of sparks. If you are living in a post apocalyptic world, you aren't going to be as completely innocent as these people. They all seemed to be simple minded.

I think the first book would be great for my young teen and this book would be a good primer for my 10 and 8 year olds.

And remember kids, war will make you unhappy. And the audio book version has lots of sounds just in case you don't have a good enough imagination.

I'm still eager for the next one.
