City of Fortune: How Venice Won and Lost a Naval Empire

Great history of Venice and the Mediterranean area from about 1000-1500. Beautiful Venice was an unbelievably bloody conqueror and ruthless in controlling all trade. One little tidbit for our attorneys, the Venetians also were compulsive record keepers, and at one point had approximately 45 miles worth of documents! It's a fascinating story!
