I'm one of those people who absolutely loathed Leif, but after reading this and getting his perspective, I can totally understand where he is coming from and how he feels but he still annoyed me a little. He's constant begging and pleading to convince Pagan to love him, even though she wasn't in love with him was frustrating and embarrassing at times. And, the fact that he could not do anything about the situation that he was in with Pagan, and trying to convince Pagan to accept the fact that his father ruled her life as well as his, was bugging me. He chose not to stand up for himself or Pagan until the very end. Okay, I get that he's hands a tied, but come on, he could of really done something more if he wanted to, but he chose to be selfish and possessive, because he could. He was desperate for Pagan to be in love with him and was holding on to the very edge, hoping she would be swayed by him. You really can't expect someone to just fall in love with you cause you will it. It's not how it goes, and no amount of voodoo can persuade Pagan. I literally wanted to jump into the book and shake some sense into him and scream "she doesn't love you, get over it." But, seriously, I really didn't expect anything else from Leif. He's father is a voodoo king who takes whatever and whomever he pleases, when he wants it, regardless of the consequences. That's his example, but what did surprise me, was how sensitive he was to the human condition and admitting at the end that he is not his there is really hope for him, yet!

I gave it four stars, cause I loved reading Leif's POV and getting to know him a bit better. He did make me feel sorry for him, but I still was annoyed by his excuses, and that's why I didn't give the book 5 stars. I look forward to reading his series when it comes out, and maybe, he can persuade me completely.
