I don't why I like this one. It's kind of silly but I do like it. I've read it 4 times now. Russian folk mythology is an avocation of mine for longtime since I first listened in Isao Tomita's 'The Firebird' (C)1976. I've listened to orchestral versions of Stravinsky's class ballet many times over the years. I love the Firebird folk myth as I love the myth of the Phoenix. Ilya Ivanovich's struggles against overpowering odds is probably why I like it so much. I love a good underdog-makes-good yarn. The magic is a bonus!
