A look at the reviews here proves that this is one of those books about which people have polarised opinions. Either a 'Oh my God, this book changed my life' kind or 'What a royal waste of time' kind. There is no sitting on the fence.

So here it is: I did not enjoy it. This book reads like the rantings of a sulking teenager and nothing more. As several people pointed out here, Holden is the biggest phony himself and needs to grow up. I can't remember any sequence in the book which was remarkable and towards the end, I was wondering if my copy was missing a few pages because, well, where is the climax?

May be I cannot relate to it because it is set in New York of the 70s, so there is an obvious cultural reference that I am missing. Or may be girls can't relate to it as much as boys? Don't know. Won't recommend anyone for sure.
