liked it

** spoiler alert ** I have enjoyed many of Barr's books based on her Anna Pigeon character mainly because of my affection for the settings within various national parks. BUT, this most recent book was a real drag.

There were few characters and each of them were so bogged down with obsessions and character flaws there was no one to really "root for". Even the public that the NPS serves was unlikeable.

I am glad to know how Anna made the transition from a New Yorker to a NPS law enforcement ranger but even knowing the back story I still find the change within her rather unbelievable.

The story was dark with none of Anna's usual wry humor. The angst over sexual orientation was boring. I expect a solid murder mystery set in one of our country's wonderful national parks from the Anna Pigeon series. If Barr wants to write something else just don't tie it to Anna Pigeon.
