I liked this book. Random House sent copies out to book clubs in May and we were lucky enough to get some of those copies. It will be published at the end of June. It would NOT have been a book that I would have picked up on its own. The premise is kind of science-fiction and that is not my usual genre, but I did like the story. It is the story of a girl who is in 6th grade. Mysteriously the earth has begun to slow its rotation and the days begin to stretch out longer and longer. The effect is not just more daylight, but plants, the food supply, and animals are all affected. Meanwhile people begin to change as well. Some cling to the lifestyle they had, while others begin to live much more impulsively. While Julia is going through all the normal pre-teen/teen angst--first love, looking for acceptance from peers, cliques, etc...the society as a whole is trying to deal with the new "normal," which has to continue to change as the days continue to lengthen. There is no big, dramatic climax to this story. It just rolls along. I liked the writing. I liked the characters. The premise was interesting.
