I normally don't like to make short reviews for books here, but the structure of this novel necessitated it.

Why? Because 2/3 of this book felt like filler for the otherwise very well done and thrilling last third of the story. Up until you get into the 30's in chapters, everything preceding that felt formulaic in terms of the relationship between the two leads (Penryn and Raffe) in another Dystopian future with Religious-based Fantasy elements (~*killer angels!*~); but then the last act of the book throws me with, in my opinion, a sudden genre shift that, while not BAD per se, was off-putting when compared to the rest of the whole.

And despite me writing all this, I'll probably end up reading the sequel when it comes out; that's how strong the ending was.
