Clever, clever book. I never thought I'd sympathize or LIKE Thomas Cromwell, the villain of A Man for All Seasons and one who history has portrayed as an opportunistic climber in Henry VIII's court. However, Hilary Mantel's novel gives us a whole new Thomas Cromwell, one who is witty, brash, and politically savvy. It is Cromwell's voice that is so captivating, and his observations of the great men and women of the age show the very human side of these larger than life historical figures. I highly recommend this 2009 Booker Prize-winning novel.
