I would recommend 'Teach Like Your Hair's On Fire' over this book, simply because Shortcuts is more about Mr. Esquith and his attitude while Hair On Fire is about how and why his activities work.
If you're a teacher looking to commiserate, I'm sure this book is great; if you're looking for ideas and inspiration, I'd go with his second book. This could be because I read the other one first and was impressed by the overall novelty of his methods, but it's also the one I'd read again.
