I know. I know. I said "never again" after #s 15, 16, and 17. Seventeen was execrable.

And then one of my friends (she who shall not be named) said "Eighteen is better--Evanovich goes in a different direction." And there it was on the library shelf, in the "Hot Titles" section.

So I read it. And it was the same old, same old crapola. There is a little secret embedded in the first few chapters--why did Stephanie fly home from her Hawaiian vacation early and alone?--that may be what Wrong-Headed Friend was referring to. But--it's a silly plot device, and actually pretty unbelievable. And once that's revealed, the book keeps piling new and irrelevant characters and motives into an also-unbelievable plot.

By the way, I could tell Evanovich how to fix the series. Couldn't you?
