Agatha Clay is an incompetent lab assistant in an alternate version of Europe dominated by mad scientists called Sparks. One day, her precious locket is stolen, the most powerful Spark in the world comes to visit, and Agatha starts to realize she might be a bit Sparky herself. This novelization of the first three volumes of the award-winning Girl Genius webcomic is admirably faithful to the source material. It falls short of the original only because the riotous, madcap story is so well served by a more visual medium that even the additional interior insight offered by the novel format cannot compensate.
