I'm a huge Michael Crichton fan, and this is the worst book of his that I've read. It starts off very well with a promising plot and lots of well-explained features of life in the olden days that are unfamiliar to modern people. But the characters seem like they come from a screenplay from an action movie made for teenagers, and towards the end the plot goes downhill also.

I don't hold these criticisms against Michael Crichton, because he didn't intend to release the book. It was found in his files after his passing. Surely the author intended to polish it up a bit before releasing it, or maybe he did intend to turn it into a screenplay for an action movie! In the end I still found the book to be a very enjoyable read, just not up to the author's usual high standards.

Thanks Michael for all the wonderful books and movies!
