it was amazing
bookshelves: children-ya, historical-fiction

This is a really great book about life for one girl leading up to and during WWII in Germany. I loved the wry humor and tenderness of the narrator and the good message about the power of words and books. As someone who often reads the last pages of a book to see what happens before I finish reading so I can enjoy the process of reading, I loved how the narrator often mentions what's going to be happening. He says something about how he's not interested in building suspense, but exploring how things happen. I also loved all the bold sections that highlight some observation or definition. I thought it was a touching and unique book.
