A very readable and enjoyable history of the late Roman Republic leading up to its final death under Augustus. I knew a decent amount about Julius Caesar and the second Triumvirate, but I found it extremely illuminating when it came to the preceding period. I was left wondering slightly how reliable all the information was given all the potential problems with the source material, but it is definitely an entertaining and interesting introduction to the topic.
Given the obvious parallels to current problems in certain Republics in the world, it's particularly important to understand what happened in Rome.
