The Wrong Man by David Ellis

When a homeless veteran of Iraq is accused of murder, his aunt hires Jason Kolarich to defend him.

In this cleverly written plot, Kolarich has to work out a defense for a man who has PTSD and won't say a word in his own defense.

At the same time, a man approaches Kolarich and asks if he would defend him if he's arrested for a certain crime. When they meet, Jason finds the man is a mob figure who doesn't want to use the mob attorney because he wants to give up the name of a hired killer in return for immunity. Nothing comes of the meeting but Jason does meet a young lady that he wants to get to know better.

There is a side story of a number of military looking men who have purchased corporations selling fertilizer and other ingredients that could be perfectly legal but also could be used illegally with sever consequences.

We feel for the unfortunate war hero and follow the story as Jason tries to figure out a defense while thinking more and more that the woman killed may have been murdered for another reason.

This is a taut legal thriller with a difficult premise to accept but if the reader can accept it, it is a very enjoyable book.

The pacing was well done and the author added a number of surprises to add to the enjoyment.
