This book is beautifully written and is full of complex emotions set within war time France, It's not quite the usual story of romance, patriotism and adventure. There is not the usual focus on action, more a concentration on what is inside the heroines head. In fact the reader almost occupies it and internalises the thoughts and feelings of the heroine. The futility of the actions of both the organisation of the SOE and the individual is never far below the surface. The plot does not dwell on the thebetrayal, torture, death which can be typical of this genre, but retains an intensity and suspense from beginning to end. The conclusion to the book is both understated and surprising and captures the reality of living a dual existence. A recommended read
