My Thoughts:

When I was in middle school, I wanted to be a Navy Pilot and fly an F-14. Yes, this may have had something to do with the fact that my favorite television show at the time was JAG but that’s beside the point. The truth is I’ve always thought it would be cool to be a pilot. The thrill of it has always fascinated me. I even looked into flight lessons one time (I’m still saving up for those). Eventually, I veered away from that idea but it was always in the back of my mind. This book brought it back to the front!

Due to my desire to one day fly myself, when I read the description for this book I knew that I had to read it. A girl…pilot…with two hot pilot guys…uh, yes please! And the good news? This book did not disappoint.

I loved Leah and her passion for flying. I love that she doesn’t apologize for who she is and where she came from. Since the book is told from her perspective you are able to see that she is embarrassed about her mom and living in a trailer, but at the same time when she talks to people about it she tells it like it is. This is my life, plain and simple. There was a couple times where she did get irritated about the things that people said to her but for the most part I thought she handled herself really well. Leah was not afraid to call Grayson out and tell him what she thought of him.

At first, Grayson threw me for a loop because it’s my son’s name and it’s not an extremely common name and it’s slightly weird thinking about a guy with the same name as your kid being hot. BUT, I got over it…fairly quickly. Grayson is hot and a badass. I didn’t fully understand his reasoning behind his decisions. I mean, I did, but I didn’t. Once you read the book I think you’ll understand what I mean. I admire his ability to overtake his dad’s business at such a young age. He was forced to grow up quickly and he handled it well. I also loved how he squeezed his hands to keep from saying something he’d later regret. I just thought it was super cute.

The one thing I didn’t love about this book was what everyone thought about Leah. I mean I get that the author was portraying how people use stereotypes and judge people without really knowing them but reading it was difficult. I felt bad that Leah’s best friend, Molly, and Grayson and Alec thought the worst of her simply because of where she came from. I guess the most troubling part of it was that this happens all the time in real life.

Jennifer Echols once again tackles tough issues while putting together a truly captivating story in Such a Rush. Like the title, this book is such a rush!
