Sooo I am between 3 and 4 stars for this book. On the one hand the cover is AMAZEBALLS, I love chicks who can burn things, and I love Victoriana/Historical Romance, I love grand conspiracy theories, yeah, there's a lot to like here. It felt like this was a first novel to me? So the characters were good but a bit shaky, and the world building was ALMOST there. Yeah, that's why it tipped over to 3 stars, even though there were plenty of 4 star qualities for sure.

I was irritated by one thing SUPER IRRITATED:

SPOILER:
WTF she was an amazing swordsman when she was a kid, then it disappeared for 85% of the book, ONLY TO COME BACK AT THE END CONVENIENTLY?!?! I mean...yeah. That part irritated me.

END SPOILER/

I'm torn, because this was enjoyable. I feel like the author has the roots of something really good though, so I'm gonna pick up the next one for sure.
