Sarah Maclean is a new author for me and this is the first book by her that i read.

So far, it is not disappointing but not really out of the world good either.
The first part was good, but the second part was just meh.

Michael Bourne lost everything in a card game and 10 years afterward he still looking for ways to get the land that he lost.
Penelope was his childhood friend, and her father won Bourne's land in a card game and added that to Penelope's dowry. Thus, Michael see that marrying Penelope is the only way to get his land back.

The rest of the story is predictable.

What i like about this book is the emotional angst of the two characters in the first part of the book. Penelope never stop thinking about Michael and she was very happy to see him until she learns that he is willing to sacrifice her to achieve his vengeance.

Aside from being cliche, what i found irritating is the changes in Michael. At first he still focus his life solely for his revenge but suddenly in an epiphany he found out that he can let go of everything just to be with Penelope.

Anyway, i was looking for a simple entertainment and this is what i got with this book. Will read another book by Sarah Maclean.
