To be fair, this is the first book I read on my Kindle, so it's possible that the e-reader undermined my reading experience. As a rule, I love Jeanette Winterson's writing. Her book, The Stone Gods, is one of my favorites. But memoir is a different form, and I'm not sure this was entirely such a successful memoir. I love reading her voice, but there was often such a disjointedness to the writing that I was on edge. Perhaps that was on purpose. There are great moments, but overall, I did not enjoy as I hoped I would. I did not cling on every word, and long to return to it, but finished because I'd started and because I was curious about where we were going. Uncomfortable, is how I'd describe it really.
