I couldn't put this book down. If you've read Possession, this book takes place in the same story world and involves some of the same characters. However, this book is told from the perspectives of two new protagonists, Raine and Gunner. Johnson's sophomore novel, this book is tighter and more cohesive than the first. The world has been crafted with care and delivered in a way that is approachable and easier to grasp than the first installment in the series. As I followed Raine and Gunner's development and relationship, I appreciated the details and experiences that gave credibility to their feelings for each other and to their struggles. Full to the brim with action, twists and turns, excitement, and romance. I really enjoyed the companion novel approach. I still got to see some development and resolution with the characters I had grown to care about in Possession, but the voices were so fresh and gave added dimension to the story.
