Crow helped me imagine what it must have like to live as an educated African American in the deep South after emanicipation. One strength, among many is the depth of characterization. The people are genuine, individual, strong and yet flawed as we all are.
The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that I felt the ending was too abrupt.Somehow the book came to a close in a way I was not comfortable. I needed or wanted more, and perhaps that fault lies within me. The book was done, but I was not ready to let go of it.
