First off, this book is a translation, and you can tell as you read, especially in the beginning, that certain aspects of this seem rather flat, as if something is missing. My guess is that something is somewhere in the original German text.

Despite all that nonsense... this book is one of keys to our reality and the nature of imagination. Like all great books, there is a lesson hidden within the text, and the story is only half the point.

Since many of us have seen the movie, I'll reference it... The book actually compromises the first movie and parts of the second movie, but the plot lines that were shared between book and movie eventually diverge completely. The book is far richer and far more philosophical, much like a great parable, than the movies could hope to be.
