As always, Susan Squires offers up wonderful writing. The story slowed down a little for me in the middle, but I loved the family a lot--enough so that the slower pace didn't bother me that much. I would have liked to have more background on the villains--the "old woman" seems a fascinating character, but there's just not enough of her to really understand her. Hopefully, we'll get more as the series develops.
