it was amazing

A futuristic plot in a book published in 1940. A wanted criminal on the run learns about an uninhabited island home to a mysterious disease ; he is tired of running and decides to hide away to this island. Here he encounters mysterious people, falls in love, and discovers a strange machine. I picked this book entirely by chance after discovering that the foreword had been written by Borges. This is a Borgesian novel in many ways. Readable not just once, but over and over again.
