Annabelle, survivor of a bad marriage, just wants to be loved for the person she really is. Cowboy Shane (brother of Rafe from Summer Days) also coming off a bad marriage, just wants a quiet woman he can trust. Instantly attracted to Annabelle when he first sees her in Jo's bar he rules her out as a potential mate because she is dancing on the bar. He mistakes her for an attention seeking narcissist like his ex-wife. Annabelle senses the attraction, but can't understand why Shane keeps pulling back. Can these two overcome their pasts and forge a real relationship? Of course--this is, after all, Fool's Gold, and the many characters we have met in previous books are on hand to help Shane and Annabelle find their happy ending. Full of the charm readers have come to expect from Mallery this is a satisfying addition to the series; readers will also be fascinated by glimpses of Charlie's story and anxious for the next book.
