** spoiler alert ** Charmed by His Love, Spellbound Falls book #2, by Janet Chapman
Grade: B

“Oh man, are you in dark blue-eyed, sassy mouthed trouble.”

Spellbound Falls used to just be a tiny town in Maine but due to an unexplained earthquake that moved mountains and created a ocean in the middle of the state, it’s now a main attraction for tourists and scientists. Duncan MacKeage has come to town to build a road for the man responsible for the earthquake and new ocean. Duncan comes from a long line of family magic but has yet to find his own and is okay with that. Duncan needs gravel to build his road and the best gravel pit if owned by Peg Thompson who, along with her children, knocks Duncan for a loop.

Peg Thompson has been a widow and single mom for over three years and is just scraping by. When the sexy Duncan MacKeage makes her an offer she can’t turn down for her gravel not everyone in Spellbound Falls is happy. Peg is soon fighting for her and her children’s safety and the only person who maybe able to help s the man Peg can’t stop thinking about. Neither Peg or Duncan are looking for love but sometimes fate and magic have their own ideas.

Charmed by His Love was a very wonderful surprise of great paranormal and contemporary romance all rolled together in one great package. This is the second book in the Spellbound Falls series but it can be read as a stand alone without any problems. This book picks up right where the first one ends and focuses on Peg and her children whom we met in Spellbound Falls. Duncan and Peg meet right away and there is some great chemistry from the start.

Right away Duncan and Peg have a great banter between them that keeps the book fresh and funny from beginning to end. I always love a book with kids but peg’s bunch of “heathens” are really great. All four are very sweet and very well behaved but the twins, Peter and Jacob, steal the entire book. Some of the most heartfelt and heartbreaking moments occur with the boys. One of the reasons I love Duncan so much was the way he accepted and fell in love with both Peg and her children.

There is a lot going on in Charmed by His Love but not so much that it’s overwhelming. I never found myself bored or wondering when anything exciting was going to happen because it was always happening. I really liked all the characters and I found myself unable to put the book down until I finished it. The book has some great dialogue, exciting twists and turns and a lot of very emotional moments.
