really liked it
Read from June 02 to 07, 2012

I really liked this techno-thriller; I feel like it has a lot in common with Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash. The story follows an ensemble cast of characters. I feel that the story falls short of that classic for two reasons:

The writing is a little rough at times, a couple of scenes were problematic and some of the characters are a little flat, but I really, really liked the plot.

I feel like the author was trying to ground the technology in the real world, and perhaps demonstrate his grasp of technical concepts, but the downside of that is that it makes some parts of the story feel slightly dated (the book was originally published in 2006).

I recommend you press on despite these shortcoming; I felt like it was worth it, and it's a bit unfair to hold it up to Snow Crash for comparison. I will say this book ends in a bit of a cliffhanger, to be continued in Freedom TM (which is already available), so I am also holding back a little on the review rating, because I would like to see how things wrap up.
