I really enjoyed this one. It's got interesting worldbuilding, strong characters, and a sweet romance thrown in besides. Katsa especially is a great character and an unusual one for YA fantasy - it's not very often that the hardened "hired thug/assassin" type is female. The plot was a bit weak and the villain kind of disappointing, but I was invested enough in the characters that I was drawn in completely anyway. I'm looking forward to Cashore's next book, which apparently is going to be a prequel to this one.

Jessica How weird - I just saw this book in a train-station bookstore yesterday, thought it sounded interesting, and put it on hold at the library. I'm glad to hear that it is actually as interesting as the back cover made it sound. :)
