I really enjoyed this book. Having grown up during the same time period as Elise's children and being a Midwesterner, I could identify with many of the life experiences. The values that our parents taught us back then seem far removed from what kids are taught today. I admired Elise for her hard work and determination, and I felt like I had a lot in common with Nancy, her daughter. While I am glad that my generation of women is not as selfless as Elise and my own mother's generation were, I admire their strength of character.
