I love a dark, twisted, creepy and unsettling story. From the author of the well-known short story, The Lottery, Shirley Jackson has done it again. This tells the story of Mary Katherine and Constance Blackwood who, along with their ill Uncle Julian, are the only members of their family still living. Their parents, brother and aunt all died of mysterious circumstances several years before. The whole town believes that Constance poisoned them all with arsenic and what a scandal it was. She was acquitted, however, but the talk continues and the rumors grow. Just what happened that fateful day?
